Where do you live? Usually churches in the area will help you such things, you can also grab your local phone book and look up charity organizations in your area that will help out. Good luck and email me if you have any questions.
wendy: If you are living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, there is a place called, Hands of Hope – a church group which gives away new furniture to needy people FREE of charge. There is no religious cohersion to join a church nor a religion. Just check out the Yellow Pages of the telephone book or contact Grace Christian Church.
Ikea?
Do you live in Washington State by any chance?
well lets see goodwill stores have donated furniture that you can buy for almost nothing ,
the red cross ! ,
sometimes you can find furniture dropped off at local dumps where they collect recycle items! try these options!
The Salvation Army in some places will help in your situation. There are also churches that will help, and in most cities there is a Catholic Family Center, and a Jewish Family Center. They often do not demand that you be Catholic (or Jewish), will often help simply because you are in need if they have the resources at the time. Your city or county government may help, but finding the right department to get help can be challenging. Then there is freecycle.org. There is a freecycle.org group in many cities, and everything offered on freecycle is just as the name implies – free. There is also freecycle.com, which I found by accident and know nothing about except that it exists. Good luck to you, and I hope this helps.
